|
Best known for his Celtic crosses, Mark “Kokopelli” Watkins, is an artist who grew up and still lives in historic Irvington, Indiana. Mark continues to be very happily married to the beautiful Kim “Friedly” Watkins and has three lovely, talented, and educated children. Mark graduated from Howe High School in Indianapolis, Indiana before attending Hiram College, in Hiram, Ohio, where he earned a B. A. degree in Religion. While studying art at Hiram College, Mark won two first place prizes at a contest sponsored by the Cleveland Art Museum. Both were mixed-media pieces. Mark also earned a Master Of Divinity Degree from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana, with a heavy emphasis in Performing and Fine Arts. He’s approachable, personable, and sometimes entertaining! He also wears an Indiana Jones-style hat most of the time. Highly influenced by his 48 years of experience in the field of acting (stage, film, and TV), many of Mark’s paintings reflect a great deal of dramatic expression, tension, and symbolism. Mainly a symbolist and neo-expressionist, many of Mark’s acrylic pieces show the influence of some of the great classic artists, such as Matisse, Heron, Dufy, Gottlieb, and Klee. Some of the more famous artists that to this day inspire him, are Rouault, Dali, Picasso, Monet, and Van Gogh. Mr. Watkins also does commissioned works.
