Mr. Parson's Autobiography

When I was a kid, I began my art existence trying to draw Garfield.  Then advanced up to comic books, comic strips and drawing cartoons from the TV.  My mother saw this talent and started me in classes in painting landscapes.  I did this for awhile and became bored with it and began to paint creatures from my imagination.  At this point I’m always drawing or painting.  It’s like breathing to me.  I get frustrated when life gets in the way.  That’s why I have my beautiful wife Heather.  She grounds me to this planet and also keeps me focused on my artistic endeavors.

Thirteen years ago, did a two year stint with Full Sail Real World Education.  I was in the film program and I focused on set design.  I realized film wasn’t something that I truly loved and came back to Indianapolis.  I Got married, got a practical job, and after work, I still kept drawing and painting.

In my early years taking art classes in school, I failed all of them only because I didn’t want to draw what they wanted.  As I’ve gotten older, I realized to become a working artist, you sometimes need to do what’s asked of you.

I’ve done three wall murals in my life.  The "Jazz Masters" mural stands thirty feet high on an outside wall of Lazy Daze Coffee House. My second mural is inside Lazy Daze Coffee House. The owner of Lazy Daze Coffee House, Jeff Coppinger, and I created the idea for his second room.  The third mural, "The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow", is in The Legend Classic Irvington Cafe (also in the Irvington community).  I’ve learned a lot doing these murals and have had a lot of fun in doing so..

I’m slowly working on becoming an illustrator of children’s books, magazine covers, and any other publications that strike my fancy.  I did one comic strip for Indy.com with my Tiny Ink Stories --- small little snips of art made of ink that holds small stories.

I do have to say I love using colored pencils and Ink. Acrylic, and oil paints are my secondary mediums depending on my mood. Although chalk is fun.

I support Irvington artists and companies.  I live here and I love it here in this dark but bright, rooted community.  If you would like to give me any comments, contact me via email or we can chat over warm cups of coffee.
